The Refractory Linings 

The refractory liner protects the steel shell from the corrosive qualities of the process material and insulates it from the high temperatures within the kiln. Refractory bricks or cast refractory concrete may get used. The refractory used is determined by the kiln's temperature and the chemical makeup of the treated material. The refractory life gets extended in the cement process by keeping a covering of processed material on the refractory surface.



The Drive Gears 

The kiln gets rotated by a single Girth Gear that surrounds a cooler area of the kiln tube. It is common practice to supply an alternative drive for usage in the event of a power outage. It might be a small electric motor but is powerful enough to avoid harm.
